This Pico De Gallo with Avocado is fresh, easy to make, creamy, and flavorful. Serve as an appetizer with tortilla chips, or add it to your Mexican recipes likechicken tacos, taco bowls, enchiladas, and taquitos.
Avocado Pico De Gallo is actually guacamole. Authentic guacamole is actually made with fresh ingredients like avocado, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic, and salt. You can smash the avocado to make a creamy dip or cut the avocado into pieces and serve this dip chunky. While there are many variations out there on what’s in guacamole, this is our go-to recipe. It’s fresh, easy to make, and delicious!
🥑 Ingredients
This recipe is made with fresh ingredients, all of which can be found easily at any grocery store.
Here are some of our recommendations/tips with the ingredients for the recipe:
Use Roma Tomatoes or Campari. Traditional pico de gallo uses Roma tomatoes, but we also find that Campari tomatoes are just as flavorful and juicy.
Use Red Onion or White Onion. We prefer red onion because they have more flavor, but white onion is more traditional.
Use Fresh Lime Juice. To keep this salsa fresh, fresh lime juice is the way to go instead of that bottled stuff.
Add a Jalapeno or Omit it. Sometimes we add a Jalapeno for a little spicy heat, but sometimes we skip it. It’s up to you if you want to add it or not.
See the recipe card for full ingredient information and quantities.

📋 Recipe FAQs
How to keep guacamole from turning brown?
Store leftover guacamole in a container and press it firmly with the back of a spoon. Add about 1/2 inch of water on top, secure the lid, and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to use, carefully drain the water and stir the dip before serving.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
Use Ripe Avocados. When shopping, press the avocados to see if they are firm but slightly soft. If they are still hard, lay them on the counter until they feel soft. Store in the fridge until ready to use.
Use fresh lime juice rather than lime juice in a bottle. The flavor difference is worth it; plus, the bottle has preservatives.
Season to taste. After following our recipe, we recommend tasting a small amount in a bowl by adding a pinch of salt. The same goes for the lime juice. You may prefer a little more salt or lime juice.
