Cherry Tomato Salsa in a bowl.

This Cherry Tomato Salsa recipe is easy to make and super delicious! This fresh salsa recipe is similar to Pico De Gallo, but we use cherry tomatoes and yellow bell pepper instead. The results are juicy, vibrant, tangy, and delicious! We love to make this salsa for quick, easy weeknight dinners too. We serve it with tortilla chips as an easy appetizer or add it to tacos or chicken salads.

It’s so good, and y’all will love this easy recipe!

📄 What is Pico De Gallo

Pico De Gallo, also known as Salsa Fresca, is a Latin American dish made with fresh ingredients. It’s a tomato-based salsa that can be eaten alone or as a topping for any dish. Some people also call Pico De Gallo a “Lazy Salsa” for how easy it is to make. It’s a chunkier salsa than traditional salsa, too, and all you need are a few simple ingredients to make it. This simple salsa calls for tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, salt, and lime. Our recipe, though, uses fresh cherry tomatoes and yellow bell pepper. It’s a wonderful combination because of its sweetness and high juice volume. It’s truly the best salsa to make on a whim.

🍅Ingredients

You will need a few simple ingredients to make this homemade salsa. These ingredients are available year-round, but we love fresh summer tomatoes the best. They are busting with so much flavor!

  • Cherry Tomatoes. You can use regular red cherry tomatoes or a combination of different cherry tomatoes. We love using cherry tomatoes because they are bursting with sweetness. Another great substitute will be Roma tomatoes or any heirloom homegrown tomatoes that are ripe.
  • Yellow Bell Pepper. It adds a nice sweet juicy flavor to the salsa. You could use orange or red bell peppers too. We would not substitute green bell peppers as they don’t have nearly as much sweet flavor.
  • Fresh Lime Juice. It adds a nice tangy flavor to the salsa.
  • Garlic Cloves. Adds a nice fresh garlic flavor to the mixture.
  • Red Onion. We only use 1/4 of the onion to add a nice earthy note.
  • Cilantro. Fresh cilantro leaves and stems add a nice herby flavor with each bite.
  • Salt and Black Pepper.
  • Jalapeno – optional. When craving more heat, we will add 1 jalapeno and the seeds. But to make this more of a sweet-forward salsa, we omit the jalapeno peppers.

🥣 Instructions

This Cherry Tomato Pico De Gallo recipe is one of the easiest recipes to make. It’s sweet and tangy so let’s dive into this 2-step process.

  • Prep Ingredients. Quarter the cherry tomatoes, dice the red onion bell pepper, coarsely choppy the cilantro, and mince the garlic.
  • Toss together. In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients and season with lime juice, salt, and pepper.

Enjoy it right away with tortilla chips or with dinner. This recipe can also be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for several days. The mixture will be juicier as the mixture marinates.

Our favorite way to enjoy this salsa is to serve it with tortilla chips as an appetizer or as a condiment with Mexican food. We add it as a topping on tacos, nachos, burritos or burrito bowls, or taco salads!
