😋 Why this recipe works

Bell peppers, specifically the red, yellow, and orange varieties, have a tangy and sweet taste and, when diced up very small and paired with other traditional salsa ingredients, make for a delicious combination. This salsa recipe is perfect for snacking with chips or can be added to tacos or taco bowls for a fresh and crunchy bite.

This salsa is sweeter, so if you like a kick of heat, we recommend adding a jalapeno or a Fresno chili pepper.

🫑 Ingredients

This recipe calls for staple salsa ingredients, but instead of focusing heavily on the tomatoes, we add fresh bell peppers for a fresh and clean taste.

📋 Recipe FAQs

How long can you refrigerate homemade salsa?

Salsa with fresh tomatoes and bell peppers will last in the fridge for 3-4 days when kept in an airtight sealed container.

How to make salsa taste better?

After the salsa has marinated together for up to 30 minutes, and it still tastes like something is missing, add a pinch of salt and more lime juice for acidity. The bell peppers also should be diced very small in this recipe too.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  • Brunoise Dice the peppers. The easiest way to dice peppers small is by using a vegetable chopper.
  • Remove the juice and seeds from the tomato. We only want to use the flesh of the tomato as we don’t want to make this salsa too tomatoey. We like to use an heirloom tomato, but any regular garden tomato would work.
  • Salt to taste. Add a pinch of salt and take a bite to see if you need to add more.
  • Let the salsa marinate in the fridge for up to 30 minutes. This allows for more of a complex flavor as the salt will draw out the water and release the juice from the fresh veggies.
