caramel sauce with almond butter

Ingredients to make vegan caramel

To make this delicious caramel sauce, you will need 5 simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.

  • Almond Butter. Any nut or seed butter will do; we prefer almond butter because it has a nice nutty flavor, like real caramel made with brown sugar and butter. Make sure your nut butter is natural and doesn’t have a ton of additives. We love and recommend Wild Friend’s creamy Almond Butter. Wild Friend’s nut butter have only 2 ingredients: nuts and salt.
  • Pure Maple Syrup. Adds a natural sweetness to the caramel sauce. We love using dark maple syrup for this recipe, but light maple syrup will work. Dark maple syrup has a richer flavor, which is a win-win in our books.
  • Sea Salt. You only need a pinch of salt to make that salted caramel flavor. If you are making homemade nut butter, make sure you taste the nut butter first. You may need about a teaspoon of sea salt when making the caramel.
  • Melted Coconut Oil. It adds a nice silky and creamy texture.
  • Vanilla Extract. Or substitute with ground vanilla bean powder.

How to make salted caramel sauce

  • Combine all ingredients and heat. Add all ingredients (almond butter, maple syrup, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and sea salt) to a small pot over low-medium heat for 2-5 minutes. Stir frequently until the mixture starts to bubble along the edges slightly.
  • Cool Completely. Pour the caramel sauce into a mason jar or small bowl to cool completely at room temperature. The mixture will thicken and should be a pourable and thick consistency. If it’s too thick, reheating in the microwave in 10-second increments should do the trick.

FAQs

How to store this vegan caramel?

Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one month.

How to reheat vegan caramel sauce if it becomes too thick?

After storing this vegan caramel sauce in the fridge, it will likely harden due to the coconut oil. It’s okay! Simply reheat it over low heat on the stovetop in a small saucepan or in the microwave in 10-second increments. Stir and check to see if it’s a pourable consistency.

This Vegan Salted Caramel Sauce is easy to make, nutty, creamy, and tasty! You’ll want to use this sauce on everything. We love to serve it with different sweet treats, dark chocolate, and vegan recipes like vegan cheesecake or vegan ice cream, or make homemade caramel ice cream. Also, we love to dip fresh fruit in this caramel sauce for a healthier snack. It has a thicker consistency than traditional caramel sauce, but it’s so yummy, and we hope you all love our sweet recipe. Enjoy! ♡
