This Strawberry Matcha Smoothie Recipe is simple to make, packed with nutrients, and energizing. Aka, one of our go-to healthy smoothies. It keeps you full for hours and gives you energy, all while tasting delicious! The best way to describe the flavor is by eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with greens and Matcha. It’s so good and healthy!
Matcha is a fine powder rich in antioxidants and is made of ground green tea leaves that originated in East Asia. It’s consumed as part of traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and plays an integral part in Japanese culture. There’s a complex set of ceremonial intricacies to the tea ceremony.
Matcha has a grassy and earthy taste. It is enjoyed as a tea, hot matcha latte, or iced matcha latte. It’s also a popular flavor for ice cream, cakes, cookies, and more!
🍓 Ingredients
This smoothie pairs sweet strawberry fruit with matcha tea’s bitter, grassy flavors. It’s simple to make and packed with tons of nutritional benefits. Here’s what you’ll need to make this healthy smoothie:
Strawberries. We recommend using frozen strawberries in this smoothie, so you don’t have to add ice to create that thick and cold smoothie. If you use fresh fruit, we recommend adding 1/2 cup ice to help make this smoothie thick and cold. We recommend limiting the serving size to 1/2 cup, which gives a nice sweetness.
Matcha Tea Powder. There are different grades of Matcha, but my favorite is Ippodo Matcha green tea because of its vibrant green color and sweet flavor. To make this drink, you will need 1 teaspoon of matcha powder. For an extra matcha kick, use 2 teaspoons of Matcha powder.
Greens. In this recipe, we add spinach. When blended, it doesn’t add any flavor. You could omit Spinach entirely too, or add a super greens powder.
ProteinPowder. We always add protein powder to our smoothies for energy and fullness. Our go-to protein is Orgain Organic Vanilla Protein Powder, but we recommend using any vanilla or flavorless protein power of your choice.
Fiber. We sometimes use nut butter, chia seeds, flaxseed, or avocados. In this recipe, we use natural peanut butter. Our favorite Peanut Butter is by Wild Friends.
Liquid. Water is our go-to liquid for fruity smoothies, but sometimes we switch it up and add fresh juice or nut milk. In this recipe, we use water. If you want more of a creamy flavor, we recommend coconut milk or almond milk. They both add a nice flavor to the strawberries in this smoothie.

FAQs
Do you need ice in a smoothie?
You typically do not need ice when using frozen fruit in a smoothie. If you use fresh fruit, adding 1/2 cup of ice is the perfect amount to make a cold and thick-textured smoothie.
Is water good in smoothies?
Yes! Adding water to smoothies is a great alternative to keep this a low-fat smoothie. Adding milk increases the fat in smoothies, so we tend to add water over milk.
How long do smoothies last?
Smoothies are best when fresh, but you can refrigerate leftovers for 3 days or store leftovers in the freezer for up to 1 month.
We hope you all love our Strawberry Matcha Smoothie recipe! It’s defiantly a healthy, simple smoothie to make at home with tons of flavor. Enjoy! ♡

This was not very good to me. Very thin and not at all sweet…i had great organic frozen strawberries, but i wish I’d added ice vs water to make it colder and easier to finish that way. I added two dates also. Sounded like a great idea…I love matcha and all the ingredients.
